Cuddle up and dream of summer!

Living the life of a very boring zombie going on two months now, im starting to think i need new hobbies. By however many feet my book shelves are growing, my social life seems contained to my very infrequent interaction with my family and my closest friends. What ever happened to fun-loving and out going? I guess I skipped that class or something.

So – I take the low road and blame it on the weather. Winter has never really been my thing. Depressions from the never-ending rain and darkness. Sun deprivation and a skin-color that equals gray parchment – plus the ever so flattering reality of static, lifeless hair.
My inner glamour-girl is coming up below par, and i long for sandy beaches and warm summer evenings in the streets of decadent cities.

Paris, New York, Milan and Barecelona. My mind wanders far beyond what my economy leaves me capable of. But still. Dreaming is nice. If not for dreams, nobody would ever get anywhere – and if not for dreams, i wouldn’t even be able to cuddle up in my blankets and linger in the imagination of my favourite authors, who at this moment must be thriving on my unsocial behaviour. Money right in their pockets.

Breathless and awestruck I put down my copy of Twilight. It is far from the first time I have read this book. Nor will it be the last, I dare say. Time and time again I find myself drawn into the mysterious, yet ever so familiar, universe of vampires and werewolves. I have read this book so many times, that my fairly new copy already looks old and worn. Stephenie Meyer’s imaginary world has somehow captured me and kept me longing for more. Never before have I read the same book twice, and never before have I even considered reading a book more times than that. But every time I flip shut the last page of the last book in the Saga, uplifted by the atmosphere in the books, I feel sad that my girls-nights with Bella and my soulfull dates with Edward have ended yet again, and I trail back to Twilight to relive the intensity of their first meeting and the overwhelming love they share.

Who doesn’t want to be loved like that? Who doesn’t recognize Bella’s fear of being ever so ordinary and uninteresting. Biting their lip every time their treacherous heart skip a beat in the presence of a love-interest? Who doesn’t know itimately the unwelcomed arrival of insecurity, clouding the ability to be resonable and making an unplesant guest of jealousy?

Edward, the center of her universe, ever so beautiful and shivelrous. Mysterious and dark, yet vulnerable. Self-sacrificing and overcome by responsability and guilt. Like the long lost heroes depicted in Jane Austen-novels. Mr. Darcy of course being my favourite. Sensitive, romantic, boy-ish, intelligent, tormented and – best of all – able to be dangerous, without ever really being so. The kind af guy every woman dreams of, but nobody have ever met. And of course beautifully displayed by always alluring Robert Pattinson on the big screen.

With this story, Stephenie Meyer have created an imaginary world that – despite the obvious dangers – I wish could truly exist. My inner Darwin painfully aware of the impossibility. And totally ignoring that my wish contradicts everything I have ever held to be true. The little girl inside me desperately longing for the overpowering romance that can only truly be in a world that somehow belongs to the past. Be it in the era of William Shakespeare, in the novels of Jane Austen or in the world that Stephenie Meyer has so vividly conjured from her imagination – still inspired in parts by ancient myths and mideval superstitions.

I am amazed and bedazzled. As Bella is by Edward, so am I by Stephenie Meyer. I hope that in future years, I will have the opportunity to read even more of her capturing litterary work. Vampires or no vampires. I hold her undisputed talent to be true, no matter the plot, and I am looking forward to getting to know even more of her intriguing characters.

Professionally, I can only ever dream of being able to create a universe of my own. So fascinating, so extraordinary, so consuming that maybe someone someday will be just a fraction as inspired by my stories, as I have been by this. It is a vain dream – but just that. A dream.

Hi all

Welcome to my blog. As I recently finished my education as a journalist, Im in limbo right now, trying to figure out what my next move will be. Am I going to be able to get a job, or are further studies the smartest move? I have some unfinished business with my Middle East obsession, so maybe you will see me there in months time. For now Im just trying to fill the void of hopeless boredom and have some fun along the way.

If anybody know some good Middle East blogs, I would really appreciate it if you would recommend them to me.
